General Education Curriculum
General Education Curriculum requirements account for about 100 credit hours of your degree; the precise number of hours differs from student to student based upon placement test results, major, and curricular choices. The aim of general education in the Arts and Sciences is to teach the qualities, skills, and abilities essential to a liberal arts education: the ability to write and speak clearly and precisely; to read and listen critically and with comprehension; and to engage in careful, logical thinking and critical analysis. As a student in the Arts and Sciences, you will learn about the ethical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of life as expressed in the history, literature, and art of the past and present. You will learn about the nature of human beings, their institutions, languages, and cultures and acquire knowledge of the physical environment, biological processes, and the abstract language of mathematics. Ideally, through the study of the liberal arts, you will attain a sense of self within society that invites a continuing ability and desire to learn and work with others for further development of the human potential.
