Academic Advising
If you are considering changing your major, it is best to see an advisor as soon as possible. Please call (614) 292-6961 to schedule an appointment.
Why See An Academic Advisor?
- To plan your degree program
- To make course selection decisions
- To plan for internships and careers
- To be connected to other Ohio State resources
Did you know you have two Academic Advisors?
As a student in the Arts and Sciences, you have two advisors to help you with course selection and academic issues: your Arts and Sciences college advisor and your departmental (major) advisor.
Arts and Sciences College Advisor
Your assigned Arts and Sciences college advisor is a full-time professional and generalist who advises you on:
- the General Education Curriculum
- special academic and career opportunities
- graduation requirements
- university policies and procedures
- campus support services
Arts and Sciences college advisors are available by appointment. NOTE: Advisors' calendars fill up quickly, so think about scheduling your appointment at least a week in advance.
Departmental (or Major) Advisor
Your departmental advisor is considered a "specialist" in your area of study. This advisor, who works for the department that offers your major, is either a full-time professional advisor or a faculty member in the department who does advising in addition to teaching and research. You should consult this person on issues related specifically to your major. Contact your major advisor!
