Natural Science

Another principal difference between a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Science degree is the science requirement. For a Bachelor of Science degree, science courses will likely be more rigorous. You will need to take five science courses; three must have laboratories. The Bachelor of Arts degree requires four science courses, with one laboratory requirement. Students enrolled in the College of Biological Sciences or the College of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, and any students who are interested in a health-related field, should be careful to complete correct science sequences

Goals/Rationale

  • Courses in natural sciences foster an understanding of the principles, theories, and methods of modern science; the relationship between science and technology; and the effects of science and technology on the environment.

Learning Objectives

  • students understand the basic facts, principles, theories, and methods of modern science
  • students learn key events in the history of science
  • students provide examples of the interdependence of scientific and technological developments
  • students discuss social and philosophical implications of scientific discoveries and understand the potential of science and technology to address problems of the contemporary world
