The tradition and practice of general education embodied in the Colleges of the Arts and Sciences envision the development of knowledge, perceptions, attitudes, and skills that allow a student to move into society with an understanding of its traditions and past, of its accomplishments and aspirations, of its relation to and responsibility for the natural world, of its diversity and plurality, of its problems and needs. It is hoped that the individual will attain a sense of self within that society that invites a continuing ability and desire to learn and to work with others for further development of the human potential. Goals and objectives of the GEC are consistent with the broader university mission of providing a quality learning experience for students.
The GEC comprises approximately 105 hours of the 191 [minimum] necessary to graduate from the Colleges of the Arts and Sciences. Listed below are categories of the GEC.
